Foreign Minister Prof.  G.L. Peiris conveyed his best wishes to the newly appointed Foreign Minister of Nepal, Dr. Narayan Khadka

Ambassador Himalee Arunatilaka paid a courtesy call on newly appointed Foreign Minister of Nepal Dr. Narayan Khadka and handed over the congratulatory message sent by the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka Prof. G.L. Peiris on 06th October 2021 at the Foreign Ministry of Nepal. Prof. G.L. Peiris has conveyed his warm congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Khadka on his new appointment recalling the friendship of two countries over centuries which deep rooted with cultural and religious ties. 

Conveying his sincere thanks to Prof. G.L. Peiris, Dr. Khadka assured his confidence to work closely with Sri Lankan Government to elevate existing bilateral relations further.  At the discussion, Dr. Khadka and Ambassador Arunatilaka shared their views on the prospects of further strengthening the economic ties between two countries as trade volume has not achieved at the desired level. Mr. Khadka emphasized the importance of historical Buddhist linkages of the countries and expressed his views that there is a huge potential to increase the numbers of tourism arrivals in both countries with the commencement of direct air connectivity between Colombo and Kathmandu while thanking the Ambassador on her efforts to initiate the said air connectivity. 

Joint Secretary, South Asia Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Tirtha Raj Wagle, and Counsellor, Sri Lanka Embassy Nilusha Dilmini were also associated at the meeting.
