70th National Independence Day of Sri Lanka Celebrated in Nepal

 

The programme commenced with hoisting of the National Flag by the Ambassador,SwarnaPerera in the presence of members ofSri Lankan community and well-wishers. Thereafter the National Anthem was sung in Sinhala and Tamil Languages. Two minute silence was observed in honour of all the National heroes who had sacrificed their lives for the motherland, followed by lighting of the ceremonial oil lamp.

 

Multi religious observances were conducted by four religious dignitaries representing Buddhist, Hindu,Christian and Islamic faiths.The National Day messages of His Excellency, the President, Hon.Prime Minister and Hon. Minister ofForeign Affairs were read in Sinhala, Tamil & English Languages. 

 

Addressing the gatheringAmbassadorSwarnaPerera highlighted the importance of the event and the relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal and latest political developments in Sri Lanka. At the end of the event traditional Sri Lankan food was served to the guests.

 

An alms giving (Dhana) was also organized at the Official Residence on 4th February and 20 members of Mahasanga were present at the event. 

 

A Reception was also organized at the Hotel Radission, Kathmandu on 5th February to mark the occasion and Rt. Hon. Nanda Bahadur Pun, Vice-President of Nepal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Over 300 guests, includingPoliticians, Foreign Secretary, Senior Government Officials, Members of Diplomatic Corps., Representatives of International Organisations, Business Entrepreneurs, Journalists and members of the Sri Lankan Community were present at the Reception.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador apprised the relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal and the significant political developments that have taken place in Sri Lanka under the leadership of H.E. the President and Hon. Prime Minister. 

 

The Dinnerwas served to the well wishers which included delicious Sri Lankan cuisine.
