H.E the Ambassador interacted with the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province and Mayor of Pokhara Municipality

H.E Air Chief Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana (Retd), Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal visited Pokhara on 14th March 2024 and interacted with Hon. Surendra Raj Pandey, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province and Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Municipality along with other dignitaries.

The interaction was held in a cordial atmosphere and focused on boosting of trade and economic relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal. During the interaction, the Ambassador highlighted Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage, diverse history, golden beaches and natural beauty of the country. 

The Ambassador, during the interaction programme, urged Nepal's Tour Operators to promote tourism in Sri Lanka by offering enticing tour packages, emphasizing the country's return to normalcy post-COVID-19. The pivotal message conveyed to the gathering was the assurance of Sri Lanka's safety for tourists.

While speaking on trade and economic relations between the two countries, the Ambassador described the vibrant business environment in Sri Lanka which ranked as the most liberalized economy in South Asia and emphasized on the necessity to put in more efforts to improve the current status of trade relations between Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Further, The Ambassador described the commodity exports from Sri Lanka such as tea, coconut products, rubber products, spices, sea food, gem and Jewelry, ceramics and garments.

The Ambassador is of the view that there is potential to develop tourism and economic linkages with Pokhara as the city has been declared as the capital of Nepal's tourism.
